Starting Position

Position the box to the right of the reformer. Sit side-on on the reformer, feet on the box, the right hand bent in the long strap in front of the abdomen, the left arm extended long forward.

Step-by-Step Flow

  1. Roll down into the C-curve.
  2. Roll down into the C-curve and take the legs into tabletop one at a time, then back onto the box.
  3. Hold the legs in tabletop and extend the right arm long at shoulder height towards the footbar.
  4. Keep the right arm long and extend the legs on the diagonal, then draw them back into tabletop.
  5. Optional: keep the right arm long, extend both legs and move them alternately up and down.

Cues for Teaching

  • The back rolls down vertebra by vertebra — no dropping.
  • The ribs stay closed as the arm travels back.
  • The free hand may rest on the shoulder block at any time. That is technique, not weakness.
